Natural and Statistical View: Picture of Cincinnati and the Miami country

This seminal work by Daniel Drake represents just one aspect of his 19th century scientific genius. In exploring the geography and history of Cincinnati and the Miami Valley at this early date only a quarter century after the city’s founding, Drake was in the forefront of chronicling the growth of the Ohio River frontier. A man of considerable ambition and energy, Drake helped found the Cincinnati College in 1819, which eventually became part of the University of Cincinnati, established the Medical College of Ohio, and was instrumental in creating local historical and literary societies. This particular book is key to understanding the early days and development of Cincinnati.
