Old Mother Hubbard in Cincinnati

Old Mother Hubbard in Cincinnati

Paul Johnson is a book artist, educator, and author. He visits the United States once or twice a year to share his knowledge with educators through workshops, lectures, and exhibitions. His goal is to get children enthusiastic about reading and writing by creating books that are exciting. His sculptural pop-up books use sheets of dyed watercolor paper and are constructed with dovetails and interlocking joints that serve to connect all of the book’s sections. Old Mother Hubbard in Cincinnati received special attention from the University of Cincinnati Libraries Preservation Lab who created a unique archival box so the book can be stored open with wedges and blocks of Ethafoam to prevent sagging of the arm and distortion of the pages.
