Darwin revolutionized humanity’s understanding of nature and our place in the natural world with this monumental work that is one of the greatest in the life sciences. Drawn from his five years of sailing on the Beagle expedition and observing a variety of species, Darwin elaborated a proposal that species evolve from common ancestors by means of natural selection. This was a completely new way of understanding biological systems and forever changed the discipline. Evolutionary biology began with Darwin and this watershed book, presented here in its first American edition.
