Elementorum myologiae specimen, seu musculi descriptio geometrica

Nicolai Stenonis , 1667

Elementorum myologiae specimen, seu musculi descriptio geometrica

First edition of “the first outline of a scientific theory of the development of the earth.” A scientific classic, Elementoroum Myologiae makes seminal contributions to three quite distinct fields: myology, embryology and geology. In addition to being an early geological treatise this work laid the foundation of muscle mechanics and contains the first recognition of the egg-producing function of the female ovary.

Condition and treatment: This is 17th century stiff board vellum binding containing unique engraved plates and foldouts. The binding has been previously repaired and is in good condition; however, it is currently unhoused and in need of a cloth covered compression enclosure to prevent the vellum binding from warping with relative humidity fluctuations.
