Neil Armstrong, famously known as the first man to walk on the moon, holds special significance to the University of Cincinnati. Soon after the Apollo 11 moon landing, he accepted an offer to serve as a professor of aeronautical engineering at UC. Professor Armstrong held this position from 1971-1979 and many alumni, staff and faculty hold fond memories of their experiences with him. First Man is Armstrong’s only official biography and was recently adapted into a feature film of the same name. Author and historian James R. Hanson presents a detailed account of Armstrong’s life and accomplishments, including his experiences at UC.
