My name is Brittany Fillmore, and I go by Britt. I’m a 22 year old, 3rd year Magazine Journalism student with a minor in Fashion Design Studies here at UC. I transferred from The Art Institute of Cincinnati last semester, and I’ve been enjoying my experience here at UC ever since. I have an Associate’s Degree in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing from the Art Institute, and I’m currently working part time as a stylist at a local boutique called the Amy Kirchen Boutique in Milford, Ohio. I’ve lived in Cincinnati for the past four years, but I’m originally from Dayton, Ohio. I took this class because I love vintage fashion and learning about different designers. As a person who wants to have a career in the fashion industry, I think it is important to be knowledgeable about past fashion trends and apparel. It gives insight on where fashion is going. Confucius said, “Study the past if you want to define the future.” I’m trying to implement that concept in my own fashion career. In this class, I learned about the milestones Bonnie Cashin had to overcome to be one of fashion’s most innovative designers. I didn’t realize Bonnie Cashin was the first to construct the types of garments she created. I find that not only interesting, but also inspirational.
