My name is Jordan LaGuardia and I am in my third year at the University of Cincinnati as a student in the Fashion Design program in DAAP. I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and that is where my family resides. Fashion has always played a very large role in my life ever since I was young. I was always tearing apart old clothes to create new things. When I was first introduced to this class I had never heard of Bonnie Cashin, which was strange because after looking her up she seemed to be quite an important part in the History of Fashion. Bonnie Cashin is in my opinion one of the main reasons why women wear what they do today. Bonnie was the queen of making sure her garments focused on their functionality and practicality, which was perfect for the women-on-the-move. After learning the history of Bonnie Cashin’s life there is no doubt that her career was destined to be from a young age. At first she just seemed like a woman who got lucky and seemed to be in the right place at the right time. But after everything that she accomplished in her lifetime, she really was just a woman who seized every opportunity she was given with full force, and her talent and hard work has paid off. Bonnie Cashin has inspired me in my designs, and has helped me believe that anything is possible through good old-fashioned hard work.
