Exciting News from the Archives and Rare Books Library!

The Archives and Rare Books Library is proud to announce our partnership with the Cincinnati Museum Center. The Museum Center just announced their Shakespeare exhibit, which ARB is helping them prepare! Opening August 25th, the exhibit will be centered on Shakespeare’s First Folio (published 1623). The Folio is generously being lent to CMC by the Folger Shakespeare Library, which toured the work throughout the U.S. just last year. The exhibit will explore Shakespeare through time—how his works have adapted, what’s influenced new interpretations, and how appreciation of his work has evolved. There will be a focus on how Cincinnati has interacted with Shakespeare over time.

ARB’s part in the exhibit will be to provide research and source material, such as images and documents from the 1916 Tercentenary Celebration in Burnet Woods, Julia Marlowe artifacts, and illustrations from various artists. Other partners in the exhibit include the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, Miami University, and the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.

Kevin Grace (ARB’s Head Archivist) and Sydney Vollmer (ARB Intern) are working directly with the museum to ensure this exhibit is an educational and enjoyable experience for all. We don’t want to spoil too many surprises about the exhibit, but we can say that there will be a stage, complete with props, for you to play on. There will be plenty of other interactive features in addition to seeing some spectacular artifacts.

Mark your calendars for the end of summer! We’ll send you updates as the project gets closer. For now, here’s what you need to know:
