Snowflakes at Clermont College Library

“Everything’s magical when it snows, everything looks pretty. The clothes are great. Coats, scarves, gloves, hats.” –Lorelai Gilmore

do-you-want-to-make-a-snowflake

We may not have snow outside, yet. But we do have a table set up in the Clermont College Library where students can cut out snowflakes. We’ve provided patterns, paper, and scissors. And we encourage you to use your imagination as well.

Take a few minutes between classes and snip some snowflakes.

Japanese Pop Culture: Anime at Clermont College Library

The Clermont College Library is pleased to present “Japanese Pop Culture: Anime,” on display November and December in the Peters-Jones’ display case.  Anime, manga and assorted figurines from several popular anime series are now on loan to the library from the personal collection of Victoria Winland.

Do you know the difference between Anime and Manga? Anime and Manga are two different storytelling media. Confusion arises between the two when the same story has been presented in both anime and manga versions. Did you know that you can order graphic novels, manga and anime through OhioLink?

Stay Safe Online

As Clermont College students you’re required to use the internet. Research, social media, and music are some of the ways you interact with the computer. Have you thought about whether the sites you visit are safe or whether the email you open might infect your computer with a virus?

As you cruise online, please be aware of the dangers:

  • Viruses-infect your computer (a crashed computer is a useless computer)
  • Spam-junk mail (who needs more of that)
  • Phishing-collects personal information you don’t want to share (think bank account, social security number)
  • Hacked accounts-send spam from your address to your friends in order to steal information (among other things)

The list could go on, but you get the picture. For tips on how to prevent online attacks visit Stay Safe Online.

The Art of Origami in the Library

During the 2016-17 semesters Clermont College Library will be offering a variety of hands-on activities throughout the year that we hope evokes a sense of enjoyment and rejuvenation.

This month, stop by between classes and practice the art cranesof origami. We’ll have a table set up with instructions and origami paper provided. Use this as a time to relax during the busy day or just explore the craft of paper folding.

The crane is one of the most popular pieces of origami. According to National Geographic, the crane was thought to live for 1,000 years and became a symbol of hope.

You may want to check out Leyla Torres YouTube video where she shows how to fold a paper crane.

We also have origami books in the library:
Absolute beginner’s origami : the simple three-stage guide to creating expert origami

Origami jewelry : more than 40 exquisite designs to fold and wear

If you want a few minutes to chill between classes or an hour to zone out and relax, stop by the library and fold paper.

Student Art Spotlight: Guy Zimmerman

zim 5

It may be the fall term, but the bright colors of spring and summer will stick around in the Clermont College Library thanks to student artist Guy Zimmerman.  Created from his own original photographs, these digitally-enhanced depictions of flowers and rugged terrain are dazzling and electric. Mr. Zimmerman is also interested in geology and worked as a Senior Data Systems Specialist at GE prior to his retirement.

Don’t miss this fantastic edition of the Student Art Spotlight.  The exhibit will run through December.

Presidential Election 2016

Although some people may feel their vote really doesn’t matter, our 32nd president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, stated, “Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.”

(from “Quotations” From Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Washington, D. C.: Republican national committee, 1938.)
