Samuel Foote was a British dramatist and actor.\u00a0 He is best known for turning the loss of his leg in a riding accident in 1766 to a comedic opportunity.\u00a0 He wrote a satire on contemporary actor and public figures at the time.\u00a0 On the morning following the performance of this play, A Dish of Chocolate, the theater was locked and audiences were turned away by authorities. Foote\u2019s jabs at other actors brought the ire of many at Drury Lane and the managers took steps to protect their patent.<\/p>\n
