Join UC Libraries the 1st Fridays @ 4 for Fun, Food and Library Finds

firstfridays13

Held on Langsam Library’s fourth floor at 4 p.m., 1st Fridays @ 4 is a series of events hosted by the University of Cincinnati Libraries to provide students an opportunity to meet new friends and to explore the terrain of libraries, books and information through conversations, games and fun activities.

The fall series is based on the university’s common reading book: “Justice, What’s the Right Thing to Do.” Join UC Libraries for fun, food and library finds, and explore the following “Justice” topics:

  • September 6th: Gays Gone By…The Struggle Continues
Every day we are faced with answering the question, “What’s the right thing to do?” Listen to how key players at UC, past and present, grappled with this question, focusing on LGBTQ concerns from the 1970s to the current day. Featured panelists will include: Powell Grant, the CCM grad student who led the campus initiatives in the ‘70s on non-discrimination/sexual-orientation protection policy and organizing the Gay Society; T.N. Vaught, activist, educator, and program coordinator of the LGBTQ Center; Greg Hand, associate vice president, UC Governmental Relations & University Communications; and Rebecca Lehman, Racial Awareness Program (RAPP) coordinator.
  • September 27th (Last Friday @ 4 due to reading days): Trivia…The Library Edition, Celebrating the Freedom to Read
This “1st Fridays @ 4” event is being held in conjunction with Banned Books Week, Sept. 22-28, an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Test your literary trivia knowledge themed around banned books.
  • November 1st: Justice Around the World: Human Rights and Human Wrongs
The final “1st Fridays @ 4” event for fall semester will coincide with UC’s International Education Week scheduled for Nov. 18-22, which will include an exhibit on the fourth floor of Langsam Library.
