{"id":1812,"date":"2010-01-28T16:33:42","date_gmt":"2010-01-28T20:33:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/?p=1812"},"modified":"2010-01-28T16:34:13","modified_gmt":"2010-01-28T20:34:13","slug":"complete-finding-aid-for-the-papers-of-german-studies-professor-hans-georg-richert-is-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/2010\/01\/complete-finding-aid-for-the-papers-of-german-studies-professor-hans-georg-richert-is-now-available\/","title":{"rendered":"Complete Finding Aid for the papers of German Studies Professor Hans-Georg Richert is Now Available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Archives and Rare Books Library holds the papers of former professor of Germanic Languages and Literature, Hans-Georg Richert.\u00a0 \u00a0Richert was a dedicated teacher and scholar with research interests in the history of the German language, medieval studies, and 19<sup>th<\/sup> century German literature.\u00a0 He taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in the German language, German literature, and German culture.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Richert was born in Danzig, Germany (now Gd\u00e1nsk, Poland) in 1933.\u00a0 He attended Gymnasium Buxtehude and Hamburg University, where he received his Ph.D. in German philology in 1960.\u00a0 He then taught at Uppsala University and Frankfurt University, and served as a consultant for the National Endowment for the Humanities before coming to UC in 1971.\u00a0 Richert moved quickly through the ranks at UC, and became a full professor in 1976.\u00a0 He served as the director of graduate students for five years, and he was the resident director of the UC-based National Work-Study Program in Germany.\u00a0 Richert also translated Swedish works into German and published a number of articles and books.\u00a0 Richert\u2019s untimely death in 1987 cut short his scholarly career.<\/p>\n<p>His professional papers in the Archives and Rare Books Library contain material from various classes he taught, research notes, and drafts of articles.\u00a0 The papers also include correspondence about his publications and copies of papers that he presented at conferences.\u00a0 The vast majority of the material is written in German and many of the notes are handwritten.\u00a0 These papers have now been fully processed and a complete finding aid for the collection is located on the Archives and Rare Books website at: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.libraries.uc.edu\/libraries\/arb\/archives\/collections\/documents\/richert_hans_george.pdf\">http:\/\/www.libraries.uc.edu\/libraries\/arb\/archives\/collections\/documents\/richert_hans_george.pdf <\/a>.\u00a0 Two of his publications are also available in the Archives and Rare Books Library:<\/p>\n<p>Die Elsassische &#8220;Legenda Aurea&#8221;
