Myers Alumni Center.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Free and open to the UC\u00a0 community and public, &#8220;Life of the Mind&#8221; features interdisciplinary\u00a0 conversations with UC faculty around a one-word theme. Each quarter, there are\u00a0 two &#8220;Life of the Mind&#8221; sessions with three &#8220;thought\u00a0 provocateurs&#8221; contributing to each session. Each scholar provides a\u00a0 15-minute talk followed by audience Q&amp;A and a reception with light refreshments.<\/p>\n<p>At the October 30th lecture, three distinguished\u00a0 faculty members will address the theme from unique and diverse perspectives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Adrian Parr<\/strong>, Associate Professor in the School of Architecture and Interior Design and the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, &#8220;Securitybound: Cities in\u00a0 the 21st Century&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Henry R. Nasrallah<\/strong>, Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience, College of Medicine, &#8220;Unstable\u00a0 Cortex (UC): The Jurassic Park of the Human Mind&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Richard J. Harknett<\/strong>, Associate Professor of Political Science, McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, &#8220;When Big Brother Meets Lord of\u00a0 the Flies: The Challenge of Cybersecurity\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"\/lifeofthemind\/session_three\/index.html\">previous<\/a> &#8220;thought provocateurs&#8221; on\u00a0 the subject of &#8220;Security&#8221; were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pamela Heaton,\u00a0 Associate Professor of Pharmacy, James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, \u201cPrescription Medications: Safe, Too Safe, or Not Safe Enough?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Kathleen Ballman,\u00a0 Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing, College of Nursing, \u201cThe 3 C\u2019s of\u00a0 Security: Confidence, Competence and Caring\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Robin Engel,\u00a0 Associate Professor of Criminal Justice, College of Education, Criminal\u00a0 Justice, and Human Services, \u201cEnhancing Security through Crime Prevention: The\u00a0 Power of Repeats\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The spring 2012 \u201cLife of the Mind\u201d lecture\u00a0 series, scheduled for February 5 and March 5, will focus on the theme of &#8220;Death.&#8221; Past themes have been\u00a0 &#8220;Technology,&#8221; &#8220;War&#8221; and &#8220;Identity.&#8221; More information about &#8220;Life\u00a0 of the Mind&#8221; is available\u00a0 online at <a href=\"\/lifeofthemind\/\">www.libraries.uc.edu\/lifeofthemind\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t make it to the Alumni Center to watch &#8220;Life of the Mind&#8221; in person?
