She will present a series of talks and hands-on workshops, all free and open to the public, in the Walter C. Langsam Library. Participants are encouraged to come to any or all sessions that are of interest to them and to their work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, November 19<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Session #1: 1:30pm-2:30pm \u2013 <strong>Planning for Success: Project Management for the Digital Humanities\u2026 and Beyond!<\/strong> Langsam Library 480<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Friday, November 20<\/strong> (Participants are encouraged to bring laptops for the Friday sessions)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Session#2: 10-11:30am \u2013 Keynote \u2013 <strong>Making History: Collaboration, Collection and Creation in the Digital Humanities<\/strong>, Langsam Library 462<\/li>\n<li>LUNCH: 11:30-12:30pm \u2013 Langsam Library 480<\/li>\n<li>Session #3: 12:30-1:30pm \u2013 \u00a0 <strong>What the Computer Doesn\u2019t Know\u2026:Representing Primary Source Documents in TEI <\/strong>(Overview of the Text Encoding Initiative Guidelines \u2013 see<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tei-c.org\/index.xml\">http:\/\/www.tei-c.org\/index.xml<\/a> for more information), Langsam Library 462<\/li>\n<li>Session #4: 2-4pm\u00a0\u2013\u00a0 <strong>Digital Humanities in the Classroom: Tools, Tips, and Tricks<\/strong>, \u00a0Langsam Library 462<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In addition to digital humanities, Dr. Crompton\u2019s research interests include queer history, Victorian visual and popular culture and code as a representative medium. She is co-director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cwrc.ca\/infrastructure-projects\/pilot-projects\/lesbian-and-gay-liberation-in-canada\/\"><em>Lesbian and Gay Liberation in Canada<\/em><\/a> project, and a researcher with Implementing New Knowledge Environments (<a href=\"http:\/\/inke.ca\/\">INKE<\/a>).\u00a0Dr. Crompton also serves as the associate director of the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) at the University of Victoria. She has extensive expertise in literary text-encoding and the philosophy, theory and practicalities of encoding in XML (Extensible Markup Language) using the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>The development and implementation of the Digital Humanities Speaker Series is part of UC Libraries\u2019\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.libraries.uc.edu\/about\/strategic-plan\/teninitiatives.html\">Digital Humanities\/Digital Scholarship Strategic Initiative<\/a>, which aims to build engagement and awareness of digital humanities and digital scholarship within UC Libraries and the university.
