It\u2019s April at the University of Cincinnati, the end of another eventful academic year. This April was especially busy for UC Libraries, beginning with our 16th<\/sup> annual International Edible Books Festival<\/a> event on April 3rd. Later in the month, the library hosted my Dean\u2019s Advisory Council, and the board of downtown Cincinnati\u2019s Lloyd Library. We honored Marian A. Spencer<\/a>, this year\u2019s recipient of the Taft Medal of Notable Achievement at UC\u2019s Distinguished Alumni Celebration, and held our first German-Americana lecture. We celebrated the kickoff of UC\u2019s bicentennial, participated in UC\u2019s Research + Innovation Week\u00a0<\/a>and brought music to the Gorno Library<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This is just a short list, in no way comprehensive. It says nothing of UC Libraries\u2019 hardworking faculty, staff and student workers, spread out over 10 campus locations.<\/p>\n

UC Libraries hosted its first German-Americana lecture, with guest speaker Dr. Don Heinrich Tolzmann. The lecture was generously supported by The Charlotte and Edward Unnewehr Fund made possible by the Marge and Charles J. Schott Foundation. Dr. Tolzmann was introduced by Kevin Grace, head of UC Libraries\u2019 Archive & Rare Books Library and the University Archivist. The lecture, titled \u201cThe German-Americana Collection, University of Cincinnati: How it Came to Be,\u201d attracted members of Cincinnati\u2019s active German American community, along with a group of German students from Elder High School and their teacher, Karin Albrecht-Kraeling.<\/p>\n
