Harrison Health Sciences Library<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Native Voices explores the interconnectedness of wellness, illness and cultural life for Native Americans, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians. Stories drawn from both the past and present examine how health for Native People is tied to community, the land and spirit.<\/p>\n<p>Through interviews that can be listened to via iPads located throughout the display, Native People describe the impact of epidemics, federal legislation, the loss of land and the inhibition of culture on the health of Native individuals and communities today.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><u><b>Related Events<\/b><\/u><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-35988 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Singer_photo_NativeVoiceswebpressrelease-1.jpg\" alt=\"suzanne singer\" width=\"175\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Singer_photo_NativeVoiceswebpressrelease-1.jpg 175w, https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Singer_photo_NativeVoiceswebpressrelease-1-112x141.jpg 112w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/>In association with the Native Voices exhibit, related events have been scheduled to explore the topic of Native Peoples\u2019 Concepts of Health and Illness.<\/p>\n<p>The first scheduled event is keynote speaker Suzanne L. Singer who will speak on\u00a0<b>Intersections of Energy and Wellness<\/b> from 5-7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 26, in the CARE\/Crawley Atrium (Medical Sciences Building, 231 Albert Sabin Way).<\/p>\n<p>Throughout August, lectures that cover such topics as \u201cThe Contribution of Native Voices to Medicine through Botany,\u201d \u201cBreaking Bread: A Perspective of Fry Bread and Native Health\u201d and \u201cPreventing Tuberculosis while Regulating Indigenous Bodies\u201d have been scheduled in the Stanley J. Lucas, MD, Board Room, E level of the Medical Sciences Building near the Kresge Circle.<\/p>\n<div>A full schedule of <a href=\"http:\/\/libraries.uc.edu\/hsl\/nativevoices\/events.html\">events<\/a> is listed online.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) developed and produced <b>Native Voices: Native Peoples\u2019 Concepts of Health and Illness<\/b>. The American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office, in partnership with NLM, tours the exhibition to America\u2019s libraries. <b>Native Voices: Native Peoples\u2019 Concepts of Health and Illnes<\/b>s was displayed at the NLM in Bethesda, Maryland, from 2011 to 2015. Richard and Laura Kretschmer&#8221; on display on the 4th floor lobby of the Walter C. Langsam Library. The <a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/2018\/07\/new-exhibit-features-childrens-books-featuring-and-created-by-native-americans\/\">exhibit<\/a> features children\u2019s books with Native American themes, written and illustrated by Native Americans and donated by Drs.
