I am currently visiting Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress along with some of my colleagues from UC Libraries, but I\u2019m excited to return to UC and greet our new and returning students and faculty.<\/p>\n

At IFLA\u2019s World Conference with Library\u00a0Chief Technology Officer May Chang and Global Services Librarian Hong Cheng. Behind us is Kuala Lumpur\u2019s famous Petronas Towers.<\/p><\/div>\n

Before we dive into the fall semester, here\u2019s a brief overview of the last few months at UC Libraries.<\/p>\n

Several key library positions were filled over the summer, including: associate director of business affairs Jeremy Berberich<\/a>; business and data analytics librarian Maggie Patel<\/a>; associate dean of library services Brad Warren<\/a>; and content analyst Dorcas Washington<\/a>. The Digital Scholarship Center also continued to grow<\/a>, welcoming digital scholarship library fellow Erin McCabe and data visualization developer Ezra Edgerton. They joined software developer Zhaowei Ren<\/a>, with the support of a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.<\/p>\n

UC Libraries joined HathiTrust<\/a>, a national and international partnership of research institutions and libraries.<\/p>\n

The Winkler Center Advisory Board hosted the annual Cecil Striker Society Lecture<\/a>, \u201cCincinnati Children\u2019s Hospital Impacting the Health of Children in Our Community and the World: The Past, Present and Future,\u201d with co-lecturers Michael K. Farrell, MD and Bea Katz, PhD.<\/p>\n

The Computational Science Series, a joint effort between UC Libraries and IT@UC Research & Development, hosted Sebastian Karcher<\/a>, associate director of the Qualitative Data Repository at Syracuse University.<\/p>\n

The Henry R. Winkler Center for the History of the Health Professions participated in the UC Scholars Program<\/a> with Hughes High School.<\/p>\n

The Dr. Stanley B. Troup Learning Space Grand Opening<\/a> took place the Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library in June.<\/p>\n

The traveling exhibit Native Voices: Native People’s Concepts of Health and Illness<\/a> opened at the Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library. The exhibit was accompanied by a speaker series that took place throughout the month of August, beginning with keynote Suzanne L. Singer, a Mechanical Engineer in the Computational Engineering Division at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.<\/p>\n

Now that school is back in session, we are preparing for an action-packed fall. Keep an eye on UC Libraries\u2019 blog for updates. Have a great semester and be sure to come visit us at one of our ten on-campus locations<\/a>!<\/p>\n
