\"Benjamin<\/a>I recently finished taking a complete inventory on Benjamin Gettler\u2019s papers.\u00a0 It\u2019s been really interesting unpacking folders from such an ambitious and involved person.\u00a0 The collection largely stems from his involvement in various organizations from 1960-2003, notably the Cincinnati Transit Company, S.O.R.T.A.\/Metro, American Controlled Industries (ACI), the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA), and the University of Cincinnati.\u00a0 There is also a large collection of political correspondence with letters dating as far back as 1959 (with Robert F. Kennedy), through 2012.<\/p>\n

The bulk of the time spent so far has been going through each item in Mr. Gettler\u2019s correspondence, which contains approximately 1000 items.\u00a0 Every piece has been examined for a sender, recipient, date, subject, and format.\u00a0 That was a lot of reading!\u00a0 It\u2019s been interesting to read Mr. Gettler\u2019s interests come through in his political correspondence, as well as seeing the often-contentious battles regarding S.O.R.T.A.\u2019s operations.\u00a0 I must admit, it\u2019s been hard to stop examining the documents and start writing about them.<\/p>\n

Next I will be going through the contents of all of the correspondence folders and placing them in chronological order.\u00a0 Fortunately, Mr. Gettler was well-organized and his papers are in a good logical order, which will be maintained.\u00a0 I will still be considering the general strengths of the collection, and arrange it accordingly to maximize its research value.\u00a0 As I arrange the contents the contents into series, I will be placing all of the items into new, archival housing.\u00a0 This includes sending some items, like the jelly beans, to the Preservation Lab for specialized care.<\/p>\n

Now that the entire collection is completely inventoried, I will also begin digitizing select items for a web exhibit highlighting the collection.\u00a0 The digital images will also be permanently stored in the University of Cincinnati Libraries digital repository.\u00a0\u00a0 There are still more interesting items in this collection that I\u2019d like to feature in the blog, so please stay tuned!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
