Bite into an edible book with UC Libraries"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Celebrate books good enough to eat at the International Edible Books Festival April 1st<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once again, the University of Cincinnati Libraries will celebrate the International Edible Books Festival with an event scheduled for Tuesday, April 1, from 11 a.m. to noon on the 4th floor of the Walter C. Langsam Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the event, over 20 participants will present edible creations inspired by an book. There are few restrictions in creating an edible book \u2014 namely that the creation be edible and have something to do with a book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1704\" height=\"2560\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/porkopolis24-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"edible book\" class=\"wp-image-46754 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/porkopolis24-scaled.jpg 1704w, https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/porkopolis24-94x141.jpg 94w, https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/porkopolis24-768x1154.jpg 768w, https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/porkopolis24-1023x1536.jpg 1023w, https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/porkopolis24-1363x2048.jpg 1363w, https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/porkopolis24-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1704px) 100vw, 1704px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Popular books represented on screen and now as edible books will be &#8220;Dune,&#8221; &#8220;Bridgerton,&#8221; \u201cPride and Prejudice,\u201d and &#8220;Twilight.&#8221; Numerous children\u2019s books will make people smile with such titles as &#8220;Charlotte\u2019s Web,&#8221; &#8220;Freckle Juice,&#8221; \u201cToo Many Carrots,\u201d \u201cBlack Hearts in Buttersea\u201d and &#8220;Matilda.&#8221; Young Adult books have a presence this year with \u201cDiary of a Wimpy Kid\u201d and \u201cHarry Potter.\u201d \u00a0Animals are a theme this year with \u201cPenguin Island\u201d and \u201cDragons Love Tacos.\u201d Both fiction, \u201cThe Silver Bone\u201d and \u201cWhite Teeth,\u201d and non-fiction, \u201cEyes on the Prize\u201d and \u201cHow Infrastructure Works: Inside Systems that Shape our World\u201d are represented. See these delicious entries and more at the event.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As in past years, entries will be judged according to such categories as Most Literary, Most Delicious, Most Adorable and Most Gruesome. In addition, the Top Student Entry and Best Overall Entry will receive UC merch. After the entries are judged they will be consumed and enjoyed by all in attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the International Edible Book Festival website, the edible book was initiated by librarian and artist Judith A. Hoffberg during a 1999 Thanksgiving celebration with book artists. It became an international celebration in 2000 when artist B\u00e9atrice Coron launched the Books2Eat website. Traditionally, the event is celebrated on April 1st (April Fools\u2019 Day) to mark the birthday of Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), a French lawyer and politician who became famous for his book, \u201cPhysiologie du gout\u201d (The Physiology of Taste).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Libraries International Edible Books Festival is free and open to the public. Following the event, pictures of the edible books and their awards will be posted on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/media\/set\/?set=a.987954762869961&amp;type=3\">Libraries Facebook<\/a> page.
