Scheduled for Thursday, May 22, from 10:30am-1:30pm in the Medical Sciences Building (MSB) 5051, the event is open to all interested in learning more about AI\u2019s dual role as both an innovative tool and a potential source of harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The symposium will feature a keynote address by Emile Loza de Siles, assistant professor of law of the University of Hawai\u2019i at M\u0101noa, William S. Richardson School of Law. Her interdisciplinary scholarship centers on artificial intelligence (AI) science, law, policy, and governance; AI biases and AI-mediated harms; and AI impacts on people, liberty, and the rule of law. She is the author of almost forty publications, and her works have been published or are forthcoming in the Notre Dame Journal on Emerging Technologies, the Harvard Latin American Law Review, the Washington and Lee Journal on Civil Rights and Social Justice, the Research Handbook on Artificial Intelligence and the Law, among other journals and books.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Loza joined the legal academy in 2019 with some twenty years\u2019 technology and intellectual property law experience serving Cisco, HP, and numerous other innovators in her firm, Technology Law Group.&nbsp; She also served with the U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of General Counsel and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC).&nbsp; She clerked for Judge S\u00e9rgio A. <a>Guti\u00e9rrez<\/a>, Idaho Court of Appeals, and FTC Commissioner Sheila F. Anthony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She holds a technology undergraduate degree, an MBA from the University of Houston, and a juris doctorate from The George Washington University School of Law, with further cybersecurity and data science graduate certificates and studies from Georgetown University and Harvard University, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Panelists include<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Emile Loza de Siles, <\/strong>Assistant Professor of Law, the University of Hawai\u2019i at M\u0101noa, William S.
