{"id":4933,"date":"2011-02-03T13:19:03","date_gmt":"2011-02-03T17:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/?p=4933"},"modified":"2011-03-28T12:36:47","modified_gmt":"2011-03-28T16:36:47","slug":"50-minutes%e2%80%931book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/2011\/02\/50-minutes%e2%80%931book\/","title":{"rendered":"50 Minutes-1 Book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Kevin Grace<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/moser_bible.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4939 alignright\" style=\"margin: 8px\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/moser_bible.jpg\" alt=\"Cover of the Moser Bible\" width=\"276\" height=\"368\" \/><\/a>The next <strong><em>50 Minutes-1 Book<\/em><\/strong> lunchtime talk in the Archives &amp; Rare Books Library will be Thursday, February 24, in the Schott Seminar Room, 814 Blegen Library at 12:00 noon.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong>January\u2019s gathering to talk about anthropodermic bindings was well-attended and a lot of fun.\u00a0 This month the topic is the <strong>Pennyroyal Caxton Bible<\/strong>, a masterpiece of book design and illustration by Barry Moser.\u00a0 Moser is recognized as one of the foremost bookwrights in the world and his Bible, completed in 1999, is arguably one of the most beautiful books ever printed.\u00a0 Here in ARB, Moser\u2019s edition is often used by classes in book history, graphic design, art history, English literature, and religion.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/bible_drawing_small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4958 alignleft\" style=\"margin: 8px\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/bible_drawing_small.jpg\" alt=\"Drawing of Jesus from the Moser Bible\" width=\"273\" height=\"362\" \/><\/a>The subject matter is timely as well: in 2011 we celebrate the 400<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the King James Bible, a cornerstone of Western literature.\u00a0 Later this year, we hope to exhibit some of our various holdings of the King James Bible in the Archives &amp; Rare Books Library.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So please join us on the 24<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 it\u2019s an academic hour of something different.\u00a0 Bring your lunch or order in for this inside view of some of UC\u2019s fascinating holdings.<\/p>\n<p>In March, CCM Librarian Mark Palkovic, an international expert on miniature books, will give a presentation on the world\u2019s smallest book, a Russian printing of Anton Chekhov\u2019s story, \u201cChameleon.\u201d\u00a0 Faculty, students, and staff are cordially invited to attend these talks, and if so inclined, offer to do one of their own about their research with specific volumes in the rare books collection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Kevin Grace The next 50 Minutes-1 Book lunchtime talk in the Archives &amp; Rare Books Library will be Thursday, February 24, in the Schott Seminar Room, 814 Blegen Library at 12:00 noon.
