{"id":53766,"date":"2026-05-13T17:09:03","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T21:09:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/?p=53766"},"modified":"2026-05-15T12:03:32","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T16:03:32","slug":"cohen-spotlight-voces-jibaras-by-marcelino-oyola-cintron","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/2026\/05\/cohen-spotlight-voces-jibaras-by-marcelino-oyola-cintron\/","title":{"rendered":"Cohen Spotlight &#8211; \u00a0Voces\u00a0Jibaras\u00a0by Marcelino Oyola Cintr\u00f3n"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ohiolink-uc.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/fulldisplay?docid=alma991038257571608513&amp;context=L&amp;vid=01OHIOLINK_UC:UC&amp;lang=en&amp;search_scope=AlmostEverything&amp;adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&amp;tab=AlmostEverything&amp;query=any,contains,Voce%20Jibaras&amp;offset=0\">Voces\u00a0J\u00edbaras<\/a><\/em>\u00a0is an extensive\u00a0collection of\u00a0j\u00edbaro\u00a0words otherwise known as\u00a0jibar\u00edsmos.\u00a0Jibar\u00edsmos\u00a0are words that the rural people of Puerto Rico use in their day-to-day conversations.\u00a0As time\u00a0goes by, many of these words have been lost\u00a0from Puerto Rican dialog.\u00a0Mr.\u00a0Oyola\u00a0Cintr\u00f3n\u00a0delved into the research of these words and\u00a0includes\u00a0more\u00a0than 1300\u00a0jibar\u00edsmos\u00a0and their definitions\u00a0in his book.\u00a0This\u00a0endeavor\u00a0started in\u00a01965\u00a0and was concluded\u00a0in 2017.\u00a0The first\u00a0edition\u00a0of the book was published in 2021.<br \/><br \/>The book is divided into three parts:<br \/>1. A social-historical commentary on the jibaro and their spoken word<br \/>2. He is the author of&nbsp;Juvenile Deliquents:&nbsp;Strategies for&nbsp;Helping&nbsp;Them. He is known for his professional and voluntary work. He lives in Bayam\u00f3n, Puerto&nbsp;Rico,&nbsp;with his wife, Carmen Aida. They have been married for over 50 years. It was created to start a reading&nbsp;room&nbsp;with the purpose of enriching&nbsp;the&nbsp;humanities.
