{"id":6602,"date":"2011-03-28T12:36:13","date_gmt":"2011-03-28T16:36:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/?p=6602"},"modified":"2011-03-28T12:46:48","modified_gmt":"2011-03-28T16:46:48","slug":"50-minutes-1-book-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/2011\/03\/50-minutes-1-book-2\/","title":{"rendered":"50 Minutes-1 book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/fox04_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6603 alignright\" style=\"margin: 6px\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/fox04_2.jpg\" alt=\"Cover of With Jazz\" width=\"328\" height=\"231\" \/><\/a><em>By Kevin Grace<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The next <strong><em>50 Minutes \u2013 1 Book <\/em><\/strong>lunchtime talk in the Archives &amp; Rare Books Library will be Thursday, April 14, in the Schott Seminar Room, 814 Blegen Library at 12:00 noon.<\/p>\n<p>Following up on March\u2019s presentation about the world\u2019s smallest book, and miniature books and bindings, with CCM librarian Mark Palkovic, in April we are calling on Gabrielle Fox, UC\u2019s world-class conservator and binder.\u00a0\u00a0 Gabrielle\u2019s binding artistry is well-represented in private collections as well as the holdings of the Archives &amp; Rare Books Library, and she is recognized for her work in national and international exhibits of book bindings.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In our series, Gabrielle will talk about one of her most famous bindings, that of the 1994 Larkspur Press edition of <em>With Jazz <\/em>by Kentucky author Bobbie Ann Mason.\u00a0 This gorgeous binding was featured in the <a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/fox03_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6618 alignleft\" style=\"margin: 6px\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/fox03_3.jpg\" alt=\"With Jazz binding\" width=\"328\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/fox01_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6610\" style=\"margin: 6px\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/fox01_3.jpg\" alt=\"Draft Drawing for Cover\" width=\"328\" height=\"237\" \/><\/a>Guild of Book Workers\u2019 100<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary exhibit that traveled the globe in 2007.\u00a0 In fact, ARB waited two years to acquire <em>With Jazz<\/em> while it remained part of the exhibit, and, contended against other libraries and collectors who coveted this book!\u00a0\u00a0 We will also show other Gabrielle Fox bindings, including the specially commissioned binding of 18<sup>th<\/sup> c.
