{"id":4774,"date":"2025-03-21T10:36:09","date_gmt":"2025-03-21T14:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/source\/?p=4774"},"modified":"2025-04-15T09:32:03","modified_gmt":"2025-04-15T13:32:03","slug":"chemistry-biology-library-on-the-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/source\/chemistry-biology-library-on-the-move\/","title":{"rendered":"Chemistry-Biology Library: On the Move\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>By Ted Baldwin<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The upcoming razing of the University of Cincinnati\u2019s iconic Crosley Tower necessitates a move of the current Chemistry-Biology Library space and services.&nbsp;The \u201cChem-Bio\u201d Library, as it is affectionately called, resides in the connector building that spans Crosley Tower and Rieveschl Hall.&nbsp;Since this connector is also slated for demolition, the Libraries have been very busy preparing for the big move of this specialized and cherished library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During summer semester 2025, the Chem-Bio Library will move operations, services, collections and reserves to Braunstein Hall.&nbsp;These will become part of the consolidated Science Library that opens in fall semester.\u202fThe Science Library, a refreshed space with new carpeting, lighting, furniture and more \u2013 will expand and enhance library services through:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>access to holistic print and online library collections in the sciences, including course reserves, books, journals and reference books.&nbsp;Note: due to space renovations, course reserves in the sciences are available at the <a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.uc.edu\/libraries\/ceas.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">College of Engineering and Applied Science Library<\/a> (Baldwin Hall) now until the beginning of fall semester.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>cross-disciplinary spaces devoted to events and presentations, computing, group collaboration and individual study.&nbsp;This includes the Else L. Schulze named computer lab space with specialized software supporting chemistry and other sciences.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>an enhanced library service desk and combined science reserves collection.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>an inspiring display area showcasing special and unique library holdings in the sciences.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>integrated access to UC Libraries\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.uc.edu\/research-teaching-support\/research-data-services.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Research &amp; Data Services<\/a> unit that supports data management, data analytics and visualization &#8211; including the <a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.uc.edu\/research-teaching-support\/research-data-services\/lab-spaces.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Visualization Laboratory space<\/a>, and GIS (geographic information systems).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a united web presence for the Science Library services and resources.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The move of Chem-Bio Library will not impact the <a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.uc.edu\/oesper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oesper Museum and Collections in the History of Chemistry<\/a>.&nbsp;The Museum and its library remain at its current location, 520 Rieveschl Hall.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UC Libraries remains firmly committed to delivering the same quality of collections, services, research and reference assistance, library instruction and workshops, and other support and engagement for the sciences as we have always provided.\u202f Ted Baldwin continues to serve the liaison librarian and primary resource for students, faculty and staff of the Chemistry and Biology departments, a role he has held since 2013.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of this spring semester, join us to celebrate the Chemistry-Biology Library on its final day of operation in 503 Rieveschl Hall &#8211; <strong>Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 1:00-3:00pm<\/strong>.\u00a0We will have refreshments, special presentations and a chance to share memories of this special library.\u00a0Help us say <em>bon of the University of Cincinnati\u2019s iconic Crosley Tower necessitates a move of the current Chemistry-Biology Library space and services.&nbsp;The \u201cChem-Bio\u201d Library, as it is affectionately called, resides in the connector building that spans Crosley Tower and Rieveschl Hall.&nbsp;Since this connector is also slated for demolition, the Libraries have been very busy preparing for the big move of this specialized and cherished library.
