{"id":1037,"date":"2015-06-26T18:04:53","date_gmt":"2015-06-26T18:04:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/?p=1037"},"modified":"2015-06-26T18:04:53","modified_gmt":"2015-06-26T18:04:53","slug":"just-cant-get-enough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/2015\/06\/just-cant-get-enough","title":{"rendered":"Just Can\u2019t Get Enough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For some of us here at the Lab it\u2019s not enough to work with books all day, we even work with them in our spare time!<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cincinnatilibrary.org\/\">The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County<\/a> collaborates with the <a href=\"http:\/\/cincinnatibookarts.org\/\">Cincinnati Book Arts Society<\/a> every year to put on Bookworks, an exhibit celebrating the work of book artists. We\u2019re thrilled that four staff members (we\u2019ll always think of Pat as staff, no matter how long he\u2019s retired!) have pieces in <a href=\"http:\/\/cincinnatibookarts.org\/?cat=2\">Bookworks XVI<\/a> .<br \/>\nPat Schmude\u2019s leather-bound \u201cZombies,\u201d made with techniques learned from bookbinder and conservator <a href=\"http:\/\/jeffpeachey.com\/\">Jeff Peachey<\/a> during a 2013 workshop at the Lab on Eigteenth-Century French Bookbinding.<a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Zombies.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1043\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Zombies-243x300.jpg\" alt=\"Zombies\" width=\"243\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>\u201cThe Red Door\u201d is a piece Pat worked on over many years, adding a detail here and there when the inspiration came to him. All of us at the Lab fell in love with it. Don\u2019t you just want to walk through that door and see what new world it takes you to?<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/RedDoor.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1040\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/RedDoor-300x298.jpg\" alt=\"RedDoor\" width=\"300\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a>Jessica Ebert\u2019s \u201cCuriosities Behind Glass\u201d shows off the carousel form we learned during our December \u201cfun day\u201d to great effect.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Curiiosities-Behind-Glass.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1038\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Curiiosities-Behind-Glass-300x146.jpg\" alt=\"Curiiosities Behind Glass\" width=\"300\" height=\"146\" \/><\/a>Ashleigh\u2019s \u201cStudy of Impermanence of Early Contact Printing Photography\u201d is research and binding skill rolled into one!<a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/ImpermanenceStudy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1039\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/ImpermanenceStudy-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"ImpermanenceStudy\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a>She also saved neat old spine linings she had to remove during treatments over her years as a student worker and turned them into a nifty and whimsical documentary for \u201cSpines.\u201d<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Spines.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1041\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Spines-300x287.jpg\" alt=\"Spines\" width=\"300\" height=\"287\" \/><\/a>My own wee accordion book, \u201cWholehearted\u201d uses techniques I learned for toning paper for treatments.<a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Wholehearted.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1042\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Wholehearted-300x269.jpg\" alt=\"Wholehearted\" width=\"300\" height=\"269\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIf you\u2019re in the area check out the show in the Atrium at the <a href=\"http:\/\/cincinnatilibrary.org\/main\/\">Public Library\u2019s Main Branch<\/a>.
