{"id":1889,"date":"2018-04-17T20:47:07","date_gmt":"2018-04-17T20:47:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/?p=1889"},"modified":"2018-04-17T20:47:07","modified_gmt":"2018-04-17T20:47:07","slug":"preservation-week-2018-be-our-guest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/2018\/04\/preservation-week-2018-be-our-guest","title":{"rendered":"Preservation Week 2018 &#8211; be our guest!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s spring in Cincinnati, which means two things &#8211; the epic weather battle between winter and summer (snow yesterday, 71 degrees Fahrenheit tomorrow) and the annual Preservation Week Lab Open House!<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Preservation-Week-Flyer18.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1893 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Preservation-Week-Flyer18-791x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Preservation Week 2018 &#8211; be our guest!\" width=\"625\" height=\"809\" \/><\/a>This year marks the lab&#8217;s 7th year of participation in this national event, an American Libraries Association initiative aimed at raising &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/alcts\/preservationweek\/plan\/why\">awareness of the role libraries and other cultural institutions play in providing ongoing preservation education and information<\/a>.&#8221;\u00a0 Our event is open to the public &#8211; come one, come all!<br \/>\nThe Open House will include a behind the scenes tour of the lab, a peek at amazing collection items being preserved for our parent institutions &#8211; the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and the University of Cincinnati Libraries, and of course a new bookmark.<br \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_1900\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Bookmarks_PreservationWeek.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1900\" class=\"wp-image-1900 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/libapps.libraries.uc.edu\/thepreservationlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Bookmarks_PreservationWeek-300x141.jpg\" alt=\"Preservation Week 2018 &#8211; be our guest!\" width=\"300\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1900\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A walk down memory lane &#8211; bookmarks 2012-2017.<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nThis year our theme highlights the versatility and artistry of the book, from a complex composite object such as a scrapbook to a simple one-page zine.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll also touch on the evolution of the book form, from cuneiform to artist&#8217;s book.\u00a0 As is our tradition, we&#8217;ll set up &#8220;stations&#8221; were visitors can roam, explore, and learn at their own pace.<br \/>\nWe are looking forward to see you all on, Thursday, April 26th, 1:30-3:00 pm, 300 Langsam Library.\u00a0 And yes, there will be cookies!<br \/>\n<strong>Holly Prochaska (UCL) &#8212;- Preservation Librarian<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s spring in Cincinnati, which means two things &#8211; the epic weather battle between winter and summer (snow yesterday, 71 degrees Fahrenheit tomorrow) and the annual Preservation Week Lab Open House!
