George Colman was an English dramatist and writer. His father owned a playhouse, the Haymarket, and his first play, the Female Dramatist, was produced there. The play was condemned by all, but his next play, Turk and no Turk, was completely successful. After his death, Colman was falsely stated to have been the author of some pornographic works, and the hoax continued until 1967.
