Collection of Drawings by Pupils of Buncho (1775)
Tani Bunchō was a famous Japanese painter and poet. He was also a teacher, and this volume (published 1775) exhibits works of his students. In Japan, blue can be used to represent everyday life. The man’s clothes represent his status as working class, and the blue hues in the leaves represent the beauty in the everyday.
