Summa de casibus conscientiae (1338)
This beautiful little manuscript, Summa Pisanella, was created in 1338 and supposedly was from the library of Pope Leo X. Intended as a course of theology for the priesthood, the first page has decorative borders of flora and fauna. The author, Ausmus, is depicted in the historiated initial. Blue is used as the predominant color, conveying the richness of the calligraphy and borders, and in the bottom center, the importance of blue is heightened by it use in “HIS,” the traditional Greek acronym for Jesus Christ.
