Poèmes : Livre mystique, Livre antique, Livres moderne, Poëmes philosophiques (1914)
Bound in blue leather and cloth, with blue marbled endpapers, this 1914 volume of French poet Alfred de Vigny (1797-1863) works creates the book’s appearance in a dignified, scholarly manner. Poèmes is one of many French volumes collected by a former University of Cincinnati professor, John Merten, and all are similarly bound in variously-colored leather spines and corners and with subdued marbling for the endpapers.
