Your UC Clermont library team is pretty new to campus. Because we may not have a chance to meet you in person this semester, we wanted to offer you a snapshot of each of the library’s faculty and staff. Each employee will be featured throughout the semester. This week Kathy Ladell, Assistant Librarian, is featured.
Here is how she answered some of our questions:
- Tell us a little about you.
I am a Midwestern who has lived in Wisconsin, Mexico, California, Indiana, Illinois, and now, Ohio. I especially love the four distinct seasons of the Midwest because I enjoy being outdoors as much as I can. - What brought you to start working in libraries?
I am a bit of an accidental librarian because, at one point, I thought being a librarian would be the most boring occupation. I know that I wanted to work in an academic environment but didn’t want to get my Ph.D. Academic librarianship is a perfect fit for me. - What are some items on your to-watch or to-read list?
On my watch list is the Girls from Ipanema (Coisa Mais Linda) which is a Brazilian series about a wealthy 1950s housewife who goes to Rio de Janeiro to meet up with her husband. She finds out that he’s deserted her, but decides to stay and open a bossa nova club. I am trying to learn Portuguese so I listen with the Portuguese subtitles so I have a better chance of understanding the language. - Where was the last place you traveled or visited? Tell us about it.
The last place I visited was Bloomington, Indiana where I visited a friend. Since it was during COVID, we didn’t do much but it didn’t matter because it was just fun to catch up. - What is the thing you miss most about the pre-pandemic days?
I miss going out to events like music or movies. I am new to Cincinnati and I haven’t gotten a chance to do activities to feel connected or meet people.
