A new collection of records from the Business Technologies Department of the former University College has been processed and is now available for research in the Archives & Rare Books Library. The collection spans the years 1994-2007 and includes correspondence, meeting minutes, news and event records, scheduling documents, and syllabi.
When University College was established in 1960 as a two-year, career-oriented institution, the only business program available was in secretarial work. Over the years the offerings expanded to include accounting, marketing and sales, banking and finance, management, economics, real estate, retail, automation, and computer programming as well as transfer programs. The Business Technologies Department moved to the College of Applied Science in 2004 and became the Business & Commerce Department in 2005. In 2008 the Business & Commerce Department offered Bachelor’s Degrees in Facilities and Hospitality Management and Sports Administration as well as certificates in Bookkeeping & Accountancy, Business Management Technology, and Free Enterprise & Entrepreneurship. When the College of Applied Science and the College of Engineering merged in 2009, the Sports Administration program moved to the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services. The Facilities and Hospitality Management program was moved to the College of Business, but is currently being phased out.
The collection has been accessioned as number UA-11-07 and a complete finding aid is available.
