Congratulations to the Halloween challenge winners: Elizabeth Hieber and Dominique Hosch!
The story in which the narrator, a member of D’Odds family, learned German in order to master a book on demonology, is titled “Selecting a Ghost: The Ghosts of Goresthorpe Grange.” It is available online through a link in the catalog record.
The author if the story is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who was interested in spiritualism and belonged to the supernatural organization The Ghost Club. He wrote a number of stories that deal with supernatural, for example, “The Brown Hand,” “The captain of the Polestar,” “The Great Keinplatz Experiment, ” and more.
If you are not going out tonight, check out one of the books containing supernatural stories by Conan Doyle and other authors of that period:

Have a safe and fun Halloween!
