Your UC Clermont library team is pretty new to campus. Because we may not have a chance to meet you in person this semester, we wanted to offer you a snapshot of each of the library’s faculty and staff. Each employee will be featured throughout the semester. This week Catie Carlson, Associate Librarian and Library Director, is featured.
Here is how she answered some of our questions:
- Tell us a little about you.
I hail from NE Ohio, and this is the first time I have not lived within an hour of the Great Lakes. If you want to start a conversation with me, I love sharing pet pictures, watching soapy teen dramas, and visiting new restaurants and museums. - What brought you to start working in libraries?
I started working in libraries as an undergrad. I liked it, so I went to grad school, continued working, and then landed my first “big girl” job. It’s just luck that I found I enjoyed the work when I was 20 years old. - What are some items on your to-watch or to-read list?
I’ve been meaning to read Algorithms of Oppression, but haven’t gotten to it yet. On my to-watch list, I’ve been too overwhelmed lately, so I’ve been sticking to re-watching old shows to keep the unexpected to a minimum. Buffy is still in the works. - Where was the last place you traveled or visited? Tell us about it.
Last summer, my husband and I were able to take a trip to Ireland. We mostly stayed in Dublin, visiting tons of museums and sites, but also made a day-trip out to the Cliffs of Moher and Galway. - What is the thing you miss most about the pre-pandemic days?
I miss eating in restaurants with friends. We’ve done plenty of takeout food in the last few months, but it just isn’t the same when you still have to set up before and clean up after yourself.
