UC Libraries is thrilled to welcome to campus November 19 and 20 the next expert in the Digital Humanities Speaker Series ~ Dr. Constance Crompton, assistant professor of digital humanities and English, Department of Critical Studies, Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies at the University of British Columbia. She will present a series of talks and hands-on workshops, all free and open to the public, in the Walter C. Langsam Library. Participants are encouraged to come to any or all sessions that are of interest to them and to their work.

In addition to digital humanities, Dr. Crompton’s research interests include queer history, Victorian visual and popular culture and code as a representative medium. She is co-director of the Lesbian and Gay Liberation in Canada project, and a researcher with Implementing New Knowledge Environments (INKE). Dr. Crompton also serves as the associate director of the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) at the University of Victoria. She has extensive expertise in literary text-encoding and the philosophy, theory and practicalities of encoding in XML (Extensible Markup Language) using the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Guidelines.
The development and implementation of the Digital Humanities Speaker Series is part of UC Libraries’ Digital Humanities/Digital Scholarship Strategic Initiative, which aims to build engagement and awareness of digital humanities and digital scholarship within UC Libraries and the university.
