    Welcoming the Newest Bearcats to UC Libraries

    This summer, the Walter C. Langsam Library is a busy place as over 5,000 incoming students participating in UC’s New Student Orientation visit and learn about the spaces, places and people of UC Libraries. While in Langsam, they engage in activities designed to be both engaging and informative about the various research resources, assistance and services students can utilize when they begin classes in the fall, including the Starbucks café, the various group study rooms and quiet study areas, the Desk@Langsam, the classrooms and more.     Discovering the Cohen Enrichment Collection

Langsam Library, nestled away in a prominent alcove on the library’s north end, you will find an eclectic collection of fiction and nonfiction books to browse from in The A.B., Dolly, and Ralph Cohen Enrichment Collection. The red and black banner heralding its location makes this collection difficult to miss, but the space feels intimate; a library within a library. This comfortable nook is a favorite spot for serious scholars and pleasure readers alike.     A Note from the Dean: Master Planning for the Future of Library Spaces

    Transformation is a common theme at UC Libraries. It is a cornerstone in our vision: to become the globally engaged, intellectual commons of the university. The most visible transformations can be found in the libraries’ multiple campus locations, in the physical space they offer to the students, faculty, scholars and researchers they serve. Over the past three years, we have completed space projects in every library on campus, relocating portions of our collection, refreshing or adding new furniture to increase seating, installing new service desks, creating modern active learning classrooms and, occasionally, building a new Starbucks location.     Editor’s Note: We were extremely pleased this summer when the University of Cincinnati Board of Trustees approved the reappointment of Dean Xuemao Wang for a term of five years effective July 1, 2017. Every five years, per board rule, university deans participate in a decanal review. This is a thorough procedure that evaluates their leadership as perceived by their fellow deans, UC leadership, and their respective college’s faculty and staff.     Announcing the Establishment of UC’s First Digital Scholarship Center

    The University of Cincinnati Libraries, in partnership with the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences (A&S), is establishing UC’s first Digital Scholarship Center. To be located in the Walter C. Langsam Library, the Digital Scholarship Center will provide a place for faculty and students to explore digital scholarship (DH/DS) in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, as well as cross-disciplinary teaching and research.     Provost Technology Innovation Award Will Help Create Innovation Studio

    Student workers play a vital part in the daily operation of UC Libraries.
