People searching the UC Library Catalog may notice a new location on certain item records — Mercantile, which stands for the Mercantile Library.
The University of Cincinnati Libraries worked with the Mercantile Library to load 77,836 records from the Mercantile’s collection into the UC Library Catalog, putting their catalog online and searchable to Mercantile members and researchers worldwide.
The Mercantile Library is a membership library located in downtown Cincinnati. Organized in 1835, it is the city’s senior library and one of the oldest cultural institutions in the midwest. The name refers not to the collection but to the Library’s founders who were young merchants and clerks.
UC patrons may use Mercantile materials on site. Only those who are Mercantile Library members may borrow materials directly.
