Boards, Committees & Fellowships

Nimisha Bhat, history, WGSS & anthropology librarian, was named the new Taft Research Center Counter Fellow.

Brian C. Gray, associate dean of collections, was named to a multiyear role on the AAAS/Science Library Advisory Board. The multidisciplinary advisory body comprises academic and research librarians in the United States and Canada with expertise in scholarly communication, digital scholarship and library publishing.

Brian C. Gray, associate dean of collections, January 2026, was invited to participate in the North America Gale Advisory Board Summit. The small group of library leaders was brought together to discuss the future of library services in higher education, provide direct input to Gale’s leadership team on product and service innovation, exchange ideas with fellow senior librarians from leading institutions and explore emerging trends, technologies and best practices in academic librarianship.

Christopher Harter, university archivist and head of the Archives and Rare Books Library, attended the annual meeting of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) of ALA, where he served as co-chair of the RBMS Scholarships Committee.

Melissa Moreau, scholarly communications librarian, was selected as one of 32 participants for Library Leadership Ohio (LLO)

Mark Chalmers, science & engineering librarian and curator of the Oesper Collections in the History of Chemistry, (2026), “Chemical Symbolism Through the Ages: A Rookwood Fountain’s Visual Journey.” Presentation at 2026 ACS Spring National Conference, Atlanta, GA. Invited presentation as part of the HIST Symposium on Symbolism, Nomenclature, and Terminology.

Sean Crowe, digital projects librarian, attended a week-long seminar on Digital Humanities Leadership at the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) at the University of Montreal. The session was facilitated by distinguished figures from the discipline of Digital Humanities (DH) and included discussions on leadership, networking, collaboration, funding, and emerging trends. https://dhsi.org/

Brian C. Gray, associate dean of collections, “Impacts of Recent US Policy Changes,” the ramifications for academic libraries along with a university press and a scientific society publisher. And “Here, there, everywhere! Content Syndication Challenges and Opportunities,” how various forms of content delivery were changing the approaches of academic libraries, while a large publisher and a scientific solutions provider discuss the future of automation, AI and related technologies. 2025 Charleston Conference.

Publications

Ben Kline, director of user services & operations. During the past academic year, Ben Kline released two volumes of poetry – Twang, from ELJ Editions, and Stiff Wrist, from the British publisher fourteen poems. Another volume of his work, It Was Never Supposed to Be from Variant Literature, received the 2026 Lambda Literary Award for Gay Poetry. Ben had individual pieces of writing appear in Indianapolis Review, Ocean State Review, Grist, and Palette Poetry. Of particular note was the publication in Flight Literary of a hybrid fiction work titled “The past is light you can no longer see;” the piece was a collaboration with his UC Libraries colleague Holly Prochaska, preservation librarian and head of the Preservation Lab.
