Scholar@UC Upgrade Enhances the Repository’s Use and Access
This spring, the Libraries announced that Scholar@UC, the University of Cincinnati’s digital repository, was updated to include enhanced submission and viewing features. The upgrade included: improved look & feel content dashboard for easier management of submitted works batch work creation and upload – upload an entire folder of works simultaneously or create multiple works at once including from folders usage analytics of content (views and downloads) new work-relation model allowing works to be nested and related in meaningful ways social media sharing widgets. Digital Scholarship Center Awarded $900,000 Grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awarded the University of Cincinnati a $900,000 grant in support of the Digital Scholarship Center’s research on machine learning and data visualization in multiple disciplines in the humanities and beyond. Located in the Walter C. Langsam Library, the Digital Scholarship Center (DSC) is a joint venture of UC Libraries and the College of Arts and Sciences. Digital Technologies and Innovation, the first pillar of the UC Libraries Strategic Plan, states that the Libraries will “develop innovative technologies and services that transform and generate new modes of inquiry, access, scholarship, learning and creative ways of working together. Update on Digital Scholarship Activities
In September 2016, the University of Cincinnati Libraries, in partnership with the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S), announced the establishment of UC’s first Digital Scholarship Center. Located in the Walter C. Langsam Library, the Digital Scholarship Center is a collaborative, technology-enabled space for faculty and group work with hardware, software, and tools to support digital scholarship and pedagogy. On campus and in the community, the Digital Scholarship Center serves as a catalyst for creative hybrid forms of research and teaching, bringing together humanistic methods with technical innovations to test paradigms and to create new knowledge at the boundary between disciplines as they are conventionally imagined in the humanities. Announcing the Establishment of UC’s First Digital Scholarship Center
The University of Cincinnati Libraries, in partnership with the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences (A&S), is establishing UC’s first Digital Scholarship Center. To be located in the Walter C. Provost Technology Innovation Award Will Help Create Innovation Studio
The desire to foster creativity while furthering academic excellence is behind the Provost Technology Innovation Awards, which fund projects that allow for the development of original ideas to be turned into a reality for faculty and students. “It is wonderful to see people of different departments and expertise come together to modernize the student experience,” says Beverly Davenport, senior vice president of academic affairs and provost. “I am excited to see how these progressive ideas will turn into real hands-on experiences for students, improving their academic journey here at UC.” The Office of the Provost provided $1 million in funding across UC, aimed at keeping the university’s educational experience on…

A Note from the Dean: An Update on UC Libraries’ Strategic Initiatives
Last May, the University of Cincinnati Libraries launched our Strategic Plan. Strategic plans are common in organizations today, both in the public and private sector. They set priorities, create a strategy and help companies identify a common direction to pursue. And while the thoughtful creation of a strategic plan is incredibly important, so is its implementation. For the first year of UC Libraries’ Strategic Plan we set ambitious goals, including last fall the launch of 10 strategic initiatives.
