Welcome to the fall edition of Source. School is back in session and the libraries are once again full with new and returning students, faculty and staff. I am delighted to announce that over the summer I took on an additional title and new responsibilities as the vice provost of digital scholarship. The creation of this new role, under the leadership of Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Kristi A. Nelson, is the reflection of UC’s commitment to the broad implementation of President Neville Pinto’s Next Lives Here, with a focus on our innovative agenda. Working in the Digital Scholarship Center
The Digital Scholarship Center (DSC), launched in September 2016 as an academic center, is a joint venture of the University of Cincinnati Libraries and the College of Arts and Sciences. Hosted by UC Libraries, the DSC provides faculty across the university with support for digital project conception, design and implementation. In their catalyst role, they stimulate new opportunities for digital scholarship in a cohesive academic center by assembling technical capacity and expertise, space and computational equipment, access to datasets and student and staff support. Digital Scholarship Center Awarded $900,000 Grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awarded the University of Cincinnati a $900,000 grant in support of the Digital Scholarship Center’s research on machine learning and data visualization in multiple disciplines in the humanities and beyond. Update on Digital Scholarship Activities
In September 2016, the University of Cincinnati Libraries, in partnership with the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S), announced the establishment of UC’s first Digital Scholarship Center. Located in the Walter C. Langsam Library, the Digital Scholarship Center is a collaborative, technology-enabled space for faculty and group work with hardware, software, and tools to support digital scholarship and pedagogy. On campus and in the community, the Digital Scholarship Center serves as a catalyst for creative hybrid forms of research and teaching, bringing together humanistic methods with technical innovations to test paradigms and to create new knowledge at the boundary between disciplines as they are conventionally imagined in the humanities. An Interview with Mark Konecny, Scholarly Communications and Digital Publishing Strategist

A Note from the Dean: IFLA Comes to Cincinnati
This August, the International Federation of Libraries (IFLA) will host their yearly conference in Columbus, Ohio. Last fall, I posted about my experience at the IFLA conference in South Africa. While at the time I knew that UC would be involved in some of the conference events this summer, I am excited to tell you now in more detail what is coming and what role UC Libraries and I will play in welcoming these international visitors.
