The patient has a story to tell you.” — Stanley Troup, MD A $50,000 gift from Paula Troup is making sure her late husband’s words of wisdom live on through a plaque on display in an instructional classroom within the Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library at the University of Cincinnati. In May 2015, the classroom was named the Dr. Stanley B. Looking East Book Signing Scheduled for June 24
Join the University of Cincinnati Libraries for a public book signing for Looking East: William Howard Taft and the 1905 U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Asia. The Photographs of Harry Fowler Woods. The event, scheduled for June 24, 7pm, at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Rookwood Pavilion, will include readings by authors Margo Taft Stever and Hong Shen. In 1900, Cincinnatian William Howard Taft successfully completed his tenure as Dean of the University of Cincinnati’s College of Law and began an appointment under President William McKinley as Governor-General of the Philippines. The 2014-15 academic year has been one of exploration, innovation and collaboration for UC Libraries. The launch of the Strategic Plan has contributed greatly to our success with its ten initiatives along with a wide range of events and activities created and sponsored by library faculty and staff throughout our libraries. Enhancing Library Spaces
One of the four pillars of UC Libraries Strategic Plan is Space. UC Libraries Welcomes New Bearcats
This summer, Langsam Library is a busy place as over 4,000 incoming students participating in UC’s New Student Orientation visit and learn about the spaces, places and people of UC Libraries. While in Langsam, they engage in activities designed to be both entertaining and informative about the various research resources, assistance and services they can utilize when they begin classes in the fall. The students are participating in fun and interactive activities such as writing on the Information Chalkboard as they learn about how to find and evaluate resources. ‘Preserving the Past for the Future’ Exhibit Showcases Work of Preservation Lab
In January of 2012, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County (PLCH) and the University of Cincinnati Libraries (UCL) began a long-term collaboration to provide conservation and preservation treatments in an equally managed, staffed and equipped preservation lab located in UC’s Walter C. Langsam Library. Employees from both PLCH and UCL work on the general circulating and rare/special collections of each institution. The division of labor for all work performed by the Preservation Lab is divided evenly between UCL and PLCH. UC Libraries and IT@UC Contingent Participate in National CNI Annual Meeting
Six representatives from the University of Cincinnati Libraries and IT@UC participated in the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) annual membership meeting in Seattle, Washington on April 13-14, 2015. This is the largest UC contingent, and first to include multiple units presenting together, ever sent to this nationwide gathering of institutions working in “digital information technology for the advancement of scholarly communication and the enrichment of intellectual productivity.” The UC participants in the annual meeting were Nelson Vincent, vice president of information technology and CIO; Linda Newman, head of digital collections and repositories for UC Libraries; Ted Baldwin, director of the science and engineering libraries; Josette Riep, associate director of information…

UC Libraries is grateful for the philanthropic support of alumni, friends and patrons that allows us to stay at the forefront of technological innovation and ensure access to the latest resources and information. Yet donors to UC Libraries can also make an impact on the lives of deserving students. A new scholarship fund, the UC Libraries Student Worker Scholarship, recognizes an undergraduate student at UC who has demonstrated excellence in service to the Libraries.
