The Henry R. Winkler Center for the Health Professions and the Cecil Striker Society present the Annual Cecil Striker Lecture. The lecture, “Pharmacy Education in the Queen City: 1850-2025” presented by Dennis B. Worthen, PhD, is in celebration of the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy’s 175th anniversary. Introducing the Cecil Striker Webinar Series
On Thursday, November 12, 7:00 p.m., the Henry R. Winkler Center for the History of the Health Professions will hold its inaugural Cecil Striker Webinar with a discussion with Stephen Marine, associate dean emeritus of the University of Cincinnati Libraries, and Gino Pasi, archivist and curator of collections at the Winkler Center, regarding their new book University of Cincinnati Health Colleges: 200 Years. The talk will be led and moderated by Philip Diller, MD, PhD, senior associate dean for educational affairs at the College of Medicine and chair of the Winkler Center Board. CANCELLED – Cecil Striker Lecture to Focus on Dr. Christian R. Holmes
Please note After much discussion with our Advisory Board Chair Dr. Phil Diller, our Striker Lecture guest presenter Dr. Jack Gluckman and Winkler Center Director Lori Harris, the decision has been made to cancel this year’s Striker Lecture and reschedule Dr. Gluckman for next year, which we hope will be under much more pleasant conditions. We are very sorry to have to do this. We certainly hope to plan some programming on other health history topics between now and Dr. Gluckman’s Christian Holmes talk next year. Please stay turned. Cecil Striker Lecture First Fully Endowed Lecture for the University of Cincinnati Libraries
The University of Cincinnati Libraries is pleased to announce the Cecil Striker Society Annual Lecture is now its first fully endowed annual lecture. The lecture was named for Dr. Cecil Striker, a graduate from Cincinnati’s College of Medicine in 1921, who established himself as a nationally and internationally acclaimed consultant for physicians with diabetic patients and led efforts to promote successful diabetes treatment through insulin, diet and exercise. He also helped found the American Diabetes Associations and was its first President. Dr. Striker had a strong interest in medical history, which is honored by his eponymous lecture. Distinguished Panel Discusses “African American Physicians in Cincinnati: Past, Present & Future”

Winkler Center for the History of the Health Professions and the Cecil Striker Society hosted its eighth annual Cecil Striker Society Annual Lecture in UC’s Kresge Auditorium. This year’s event, titled “African American Physicians in Cincinnati: Past, Present & Future,” featured a multi-generational panel discussion moderated by Dr. Elbert Nelson and including Drs. Chester C. Pryor, II, Charles Dillard, Camille Graham, and Christopher Lewis. Each panelist discussed their personal stories, including obstacles and successes as African American physicians, their early mentors, heroes and more.
