Introducing the University of Cincinnati Libraries Research and Data Services Unit
UC Libraries provides access to a wide range of research data and geographic information systems (GIS) services and resources for the campus community. Informationists and librarians are available to assist researchers in managing and preserving research data, finding and acquiring external data and in utilizing GIS techniques and software. The three latest books published by the University of Cincinnati Press feature a pioneer in medical education, the founder of the first female-run manufacturing company, and the famed Kinsey African American Art and History Collection. Maria Longworth Storer: From Music and Art to Popes and Presidents is the first comprehensive biography of this one-of-a-kind Cincinnatian. Known as the founder of the first female-run manufacturing company in the United States, Rookwood Pottery, Longworth Storer was passionate about women’s rights, her city and issues of poverty and the arts. UC Libraries Receives Two Grants from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine
The Greater Midwest Region Office of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) awarded the University of Cincinnati Libraries two grants that will promote good data and good health. The first grant received is a Research Data Award in support of UC’s 2019 Data Day event. Held annually, UC Data Day provides an opportunity to discuss and explore opportunities and challenges related to data, as well as to educate the research community on methods for driving discovery through data, a key area of interest for the National Library of Medicine. In this edition of Source we highlight some of the University of Cincinnati Libraries’ newest endeavors in digital collections. From the latest version of the university’s digital repository, Scholar@UC, to a new archive space for special collections, to our recent membership in the large-scale collaborative repository HathiTrust, UC Libraries has made great strides in increasing our digital footprint and exploring new ways to enhance our user’s scholarship and the ways they can access and utilize our collections. Scholar@UC Upgrade Enhances the Repository’s Use and Access
This spring, the Libraries announced that Scholar@UC, the University of Cincinnati’s digital repository, was updated to include enhanced submission and viewing features. The upgrade included: improved look & feel content dashboard for easier management of submitted works batch work creation and upload – upload an entire folder of works simultaneously or create multiple works at once including from folders usage analytics of content (views and downloads) new work-relation model allowing works to be nested and related in meaningful ways social media sharing widgets.
