Celebrating William Shakespeare
Nothing in his life became him like the leaving it. Of all the many lines about death that William Shakespeare wrote for his plays, perhaps his words from Macbeth best describe his own departure. Shakespeare was certainly successful during his lifetime for his comedies and dramas, but he left London and the Globe Theatre for Stratford well before he died. His reputation became somewhat obscure after that, though with the publication of the First Folio in 1623 just a few years after his death in a single volume that gathered his known plays, interest in his work revived to the point that there shall never be any abatement in studies…

A Note from the Dean: A Busy Year in Review
The 2014-15 academic year has been one of exploration, innovation and collaboration for UC Libraries. The launch of the Strategic Plan has contributed greatly to our success with its ten initiatives along with a wide range of events and activities created and sponsored by library faculty and staff throughout our libraries. The initiatives are all focused on the same goal, to make UC libraries the globally connected intellectual hub of the university. Below is a small sampling of those successes. UC Libraries Welcomes New Bearcats
This summer, Langsam Library is a busy place as over 4,000 incoming students participating in UC’s New Student Orientation visit and learn about the spaces, places and people of UC Libraries. While in Langsam, they engage in activities designed to be both entertaining and informative about the various research resources, assistance and services they can utilize when they begin classes in the fall. The students are participating in fun and interactive activities such as writing on the Information Chalkboard as they learn about how to find and evaluate resources. “Life of the Mind” Lecture Series Returns March 26 with Dr. Jeffrey Whitsett
UC President Santa J. Ono will Moderate the Discussion on the Theme of “Technology and Innovation in Medicine.” Life of the Mind, interdisciplinary conversations with UC faculty, will return March 26, 4-5:30pm in TUC 400ABC with a lecture by Jeffrey Whitsett, MD, professor of pediatrics in the College of Medicine, as well as co-director of the Perinatal Institute and chief of neonatology, perinatal and pulmonary biology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Life of the Mind is a semi-annual lecture series that features a distinguished University of Cincinnati faculty member presenting his or her work and expertise. Collaborating to Exhibit the Story of Ladislas Segoe
What started as a phone call from one UC colleague to another has resulted in a traveling and online exhibition and publication celebrating the life and career of a pioneer in urban planning, Ladislas Segoe. In the Public Interest: The Life and Work of Regional Planning Pioneer Ladislas Segoe (1894-1983) is on exhibit in the Phillip M. Meyers, Jr. Memorial Gallery inside the Steger Student Life Center through April 5, 2015. Back for its eighth year, and bigger than ever, Books by the Banks will bring a record 130 authors to Cincinnati on Saturday, October 11 for book signings, meet and greets, panel discussions and more.
