HeatherHeather Maloney, Library Director: On vacation….anywhere.

 

 

 

Michelle Michelle McKinney, Reference/Web Services Librarian: I like to read in bed or in my favorite lounge chair.

 

 

Kellie Kellie Tilton, Instructional Technologies Librarian: I prefer to read on vacation (a random dream vacation is one dedicated JUST to reading), but more often than not, I read in bed.

 

LaurenLauren Wahman, Instruction Librarian: Vacation, couch, bed…just about anywhere except the car.

 

 

Rachel Rachel Lewis, Technical Services Manager: No favorite place, but I tend to read in my bed before I fall asleep.

 

 

TammyTammy Manger, Public Services Manager: I like to read in bed. That’s why I can’t make it through more than two pages.

UCBA Fun Facts: One book or several?

Question: Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?

HeatherHeather Maloney, Library Director: Several at once and lately not so much luck with finishing….

 

 

Michelle Michelle McKinney, Reference/Web Services Librarian: Accidentally re-reading books. I’ll borrow a book from the library and realize a few chapters in that I’ve read it before.

 

Kellie Kellie Tilton, Instructional Technologies Librarian: I TRY to read one at a time, but I’m easily enticed by new, shiny books.

 

 

LaurenLauren Wahman, Instruction Librarian: I’ve got a better shot at finishing it if I stick with one.

 

 

Rachel Rachel Lewis, Technical Services Manager: If I am in the mood for reading it will only be one book at a time.

 

 

TammyTammy Manger, Public Services Manager: I read one book at time. Otherwise I tend to get lost and find myself looking back in the book to figure out what I’ve already read.

 

ChrisChris Marshall, Public Services Assistant: I usually read just one book at time.  I can enjoy the characters more reading just one at a time.

 

NLW Day 3: Do not be an Air Head, be a Nerd!

Library visitors enjoyed a sweet, nerdy treat (Air Heads and Nerds) when they stopped by the desk.

The Question of the Day continued with asking visitors about their favorite biographies/autobiographies.

The trivia board noted the recent ranking of UC’s Health Sciences Library as one of the Top 25 Health Science Libraries in the U.S.

As a twitter addict, I have to say the Twitter app is one of my 4faves. But I also love the 30/30 productivity app. And there are some AMAZING travel apps I love to use.

Michelle McKinney, Reference/Web Services Librarian: PhotoCircle. Create a “circle”; invite other people to join it and everyone can upload and see photos instantly. Great when you want to share a photo with a specific group of people.

Welcome, Chris Marshall! New Public Services Assistant

Chris Marshall, our new Public Services Assistant, began Tuesday, November 12th. Chris comes to us with 15 years of public services and library aide experience with the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and Northwest Local School District. She is responsible for processing your OhioLINK, UC, and Interlibrary Loan holds as well as staffing the very busy Information Desk among many other responsibilities.

Here are a few fun facts about Chris:

  1. Favorite childhood book? My favorite childhood book is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I fell in love with this book the first time I read it in the 8th grade and my feelings have never changed. Such a beautiful story about unconditional love.
  2. Most inspiration book you’ve read this year? Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo. To me this was an incredible story about a little boy. Very uplifting. It is soon to be a movie. I’m very excited to see it. Always like to see how well they turn a book into a movie.
  3. Ever had a book autographed by the author? Yes, I have several books autographed by authors. They are all children books. While at my job with the Northwest Local District I was fortunate enough to have several authors come visit the children and talk with them about the books they wrote. I always made sure to get myself an autographed book. Some of the authors that I have autographed books by are: Ted Arnold, Andrea Cheng, Marcia Thorton Jones, Dandi Daley Mackall, Marcia Schonberg. That is just to name a few.
  4. Favorite reading snack? Pretzels. They are easy to grab as you are reading. Along with those pretzels on a cold winter day you can’t go wrong with a nice cup of hot chocolate, or a hot summer day a big glass of sweet tea.
  5. Favorite guilt free pleasure reading? I would have to say Danielle Steel books. They are a quick easy read that can be entertaining to read.
