3C GIS Day Nov. 18 to explore power of geospatial analysis and visualization to answer research questions and solve real-world problems

GIS graphicJoin us Wednesday, November 18, 9:00am – 4:00pm for GIS Day, an annual event for students, staff, faculty, and the broader community to learn more about Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and to celebrate the power of geospatial analysis and visualization in answering research questions and solving real-world problems.

The 2020 GIS Day program, called 3C GIS Day, is a collaboration between The Ohio State UniversityCase Western Reserve University, and the University of Cincinnati.

This exciting virtual program will include four tracks of lightning talks highlighting diverse applications of geospatial methods and technologies, an ArcGIS StoryMaps Showcase featuring contributions from the three sponsoring institutions, as well as provide opportunities for professional networking and development.

Registration is now open for the 3C GIS Day and the 3C StoryMaps Showcase

The event is free, online, and open to all.  Questions can be sent to ASKData@UC.Edu.

UC Libraries Research Services and IT@UC: Research Data Management Survey

In order for the University of Cincinnati Libraries (UCL) and IT@UC to provide the best research data support services, you are invited to participate in a brief survey regarding research data management, preservation, and sharing and High Performance Computing (HPC). We are interested in hearing from our faculty, staff, and students to learn what kind of data is being generated and how researchers are finding help in managing it.

Your participation will help us assess data management and HPC needs at the University of Cincinnati and will inform the coordination of services across campus, and specifically from UCL and IT@UC, to support effective data stewardship throughout the research life cycle.

The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete. Click on the following link to access the survey: UC Libraries Research Services and IT@UC: Research Data Management Survey

Managing Research Data from Generation to Preservation

Join the University of Cincinnati Libraries for a workshop on data management planning. This interactive and hands-on workshop will address universal data management best practices. While much of the focus is on STEM fields, this course will be useful for anyone interested in learning more about data management practices and principles. The workshop will be held in the Engineering Library in 850D Baldwin on Tuesday, November 17, 2015.

Register for the workshop at http://webcentral.uc.edu/hslclass/home.aspx

Managing Data from Generation to Preservation

This 3 hour activities based workshop will examine data management principles for the various phases of data. Participants will create a data set and apply principles covering topics such as types and formats of data, file naming conventions, Readme files, metadata, backup and archiving data using UC resources, roles and responsibilities regarding data and university and national data policies.
