Welcome to my own little nook of the UCBA Library! I’m clearly hard at work, but I’ll happily pause and give you a peek into my space.

: Here I am at my desk, awkward as always! Note the variety of teas in the cupboard above me. I drink tea daily & have a tea kettle at my desk. My two most unique blends are birch and moss from when I visited Iceland.

: Owls are everywhere in my home and office environments. You’ll probably spot them in several pictures here. I am a big bird nerd, and my Charley Harper 2018 calendar art is also on display.

: My love of coffee (and owls) is true.

: Random desk items: post cards, Pete the Cat, Hello Kitty tissues, and a solid life reminder.

: My photo wall has pics of my family & travels. I spent two months backpacking through Europe solo, & those photos inspire me to keep exploring. Can you spot Cincinnati superstar, Fiona the Hippo? I met her during my last job with the Cincinnati Zoo.

: I absolutely love doodles and try to collect them. Please consider drawing one on a post-it for my meager collection!

: The owl theme continues with my two office mugs. In the background is an image of a rat riding a cat in outerspace with a taco.

: These feathers that I keep on my desk are from an African Penguin I met once. After giving him a few gentle pets on his back, he clamped his beak and teeth (yes, teeth!) onto my right thigh. To this day, I have a scar and these feathers as a memento.

I’m Michelle McKinney, Reference and Web Services Librarian for the UCBA Library. I’m usually behind the camera for the From the Desk Of… posts but it’s time for me to switch gears and welcome you to my office space. There’s no rhyme or reason to my set-up or decor. I like being surrounded by photos of family and friends. I’ve also started displaying a few of the gazillion art projects that my sons create. It’s not unusual to come across small toys that have accidentally ended up in my purse during our hectic mornings.

: This is where you can normally find me working on the library’s website or other related web space. I’m on call to answer research questions which is why I have the pager.

: I’m a crafter and it carries over into the office in the form of bullet journaling. I have a collection of pens, markers and washi tape that I use. I also have lots of photos of my boys along with their art on my bulletin board.

: I like to use my whiteboard for positive and funny quotes. They come in handy on those rare days when things get rough.

: You can’t fully see my lone bamboo shoot but I’ve kept it alive for a surprisingly long time. My mother brought me the wooden Jeepney from her trip home to the Philippines. I picked up the Nuts about Libraries nut while on at a library conference in San Diego and the beautiful decorative egg was given to me by math professor, Natalia Darling.

Welcome to my desk, I hope you like it. Up until a few months ago, my space was pretty barren. That all changed when a co-worker told me that I “needed more $h!t in my area.” I hope I rose to the occasion.

: Here is the magical entrance to my office wonderland.

: I handle a lot of books, so there are always carts stack up in my space. Thankfully, Egon Schiele’s self portrait watches over them all. Also, that is a super forced smile.

: Who says Christmas lights are just for the holiday season? Not me. They make me happy all year long.

: My area is well protected with this handy catapult/pencil sharpener I picked up in Battle, England.

: I’m a graduate and former employee of Xavier and the Blue Blob was 3-D printed for me on my last day there. That said, when it comes to the Crosstown shootout, I am and always have been a Bearcat.

: This is an owl. It keeps birds away from my desk.

: Here’s a stack of old books and other stuff. The one on top is a UC yearbook from 1940 and below it is a book of various websites that we used to find stuff before Google was a thing.

: That’s my computer and super stylish standing desk. I also can not function without loads of Post-It notes.

: That’s my standing desk and, yes, it is made out of a super classy combination of cardboard boxes and old oversized books. What it lacks in aesthetic qualities, it more than makes up with its function.

: It’s kinda hard to see but those are photos I’ve taken on my travels. My eye tends to be attrached to geometric patterns and those are some of my favorite.

: This is my wall of postcards, weird stuff I’ve cut out of magazines, a photo of me on a horse, and stupid inside jokes.

From The Desk Of…Julie Robinson, UCBA Library Operations Manager

From the desk of Julie Robinson, UCBA’s Library Operations Manager. She has turned her cozy cubicle into a mini pop culture museum filled with the coolest items.

: Welcome to my space! My home away from home….

: I cleaned just for this…otherwise there would be A LOT more stacks. Notice the Angry Bird above my computer….I have a 5 year old nephew who is obsessed and this was his birthday invitation!

: Every space needs some fun! My book pages are folded to spell out my name, an Xmas gift from my mother; Guy Noir, detective; LOTR Minas Tirith; and of course my amazing family!

: I have way more than this at home (surprise, surprise), but this is a nice representation of some of favorite pop culture “things”!

: Guy Noir is watching over Minas Tirith….with a teeny tiny copy of “The Hunger Games” in front of them.

: More pop culture, because we should all have a lot in our lives! The building on the right is the Drinko Library at Marshall University, a going away gift from friends at Marshall University’s School of Medicine, my job prior to UCBA.

: He Who Must Not Be Named even comes to the UCBA Library!

: One of my favorite movies today, tomorrow, and forever…sadly, I’m missing Fezzik, the Man in Black, and Inigo “you killed my father, prepare to die” Montoya 🙁

: Extra signs, ’cause seriously folks it’s a library…shhhhhh 😉

: The “dark side” of my space…project board and a “dumping ground” for equipment and “stuff” . What you don’t see is my coffee pot, because vast quantities are required to achieve the highly functioning status you see on a daily basis!

: Thanks for visiting my space…I’m sure if I try really, really hard I may be able to keep it clean for a while, no promises though!
