The year 2012 marks the 200th anniversary of the first publishing of Kinder und Hausmarchen (Children’s and Household Tales), a collection of German folk tales published by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm and commonly referred to as Grimms’ Fairy Tales. In celebration of this monumental book, an exhibit is currently on display on Langsam Library’s 4th and 5th floor lobbies celebrating the Brothers Grimm and their many contributions to the world of fairy tales. The Sleep Cycle Comes to an End

As the school year comes to a close today so does my internship at the Archives & Rare Books Library. Throughout my internship I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and have truly come to appreciate the role the Archives & Rare Books Library plays in documenting Cincinnati’s history. Not originally from this town, through processing the Nelson and Florence Hoffman Cincinnati Post Card Collection and The Gaylord Oscar Shepherd Collection of Strobridge Lithography Company Calendar Cards, I was able learn about Cincinnati’s rich past and all of the events and people that gave rise to the present culture of the city.
Works of Wearable Art on Display in the DAAP Library
Ever dream of wearing a piece of sculpture? You can imagine it now when you visit the Robert A. Deshon and Karl J. Schlachter Library for Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) . On display through July 31 are handsculpted, original jewelry designs in precious metals from Lynne Meyers Gordon, M.F.A. The strikingly beautiful pieces include necklaces, pendents, and belts in geometric forms in all shapes and sizes and different metals. Continue reading

UC Libraries Pay Tribute to UC Authors, Editors and Composers
Exhibit of Published Works on Display in Langsam Library’s 4th and 5th Floors through June 10, 2012
The annual Authors, Editors and Composers reception and program was held Tuesday, April 17, in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center. At the event, UC Libraries honored 285 faculty members and their 413 creative and scholarly works published in the year 2011. Participating faculty members represented every UC college plus the Division of Professional Practice, and the Libraries. Continue reading
From Pyramids to Spacecraft
The traveling exhibition From Pyramids to Spacecraft will be shown at the Robert A. Deshon and Karl J. Schlachter Library for Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) April 20 – May 15, 2012. The exhibit features selected projects by the design studio Architecture and Vision, founded by Italian architect Arturo Vittori and Swiss architect Andreas Vogler, with offices in Munich, Germany and Bomarzo, Italy. Answering the call: 25th General Hospital featured in UC Magazine

The April edition of UC Magazine features an article based on Courage and Skill in World War II: 25th General Hospital, a UC Libraries online exhibit. Additional photographs, texts and video can be viewed from the digital collection.
During the summer of 1941, the U.S. Army invited the University of Cincinnati to organize the 25th General Hospital to serve as a major medical facility in the European war theater. More than 600 physicians, surgeons, nurses, and enlisted men served the 25th with distinction in England, France, and Belgium until the end of the war. An earlier incarnation of the 25th had bravely served on the battlefields of World War I.
Charley Harper on Display
Known for his colorful, minimalist views of nature, Cincinnati-artist Charley Harper produced not just paintings and prints, but he also contributed his art to numerous books and other publications.
Examples of this work can be seen in an exhibit on display in the Robert A. Deshon and Karl J. Schlachter Library for Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) through February.
