New German American Online Exhibit on the ARB Web Page

The Archives & Rare Books Library has added a new exhibit to its German Americana Collection and Urban Studies Collection web pages.  Gemutlikeit, Schnitzelbank, and Kitsch: German American Caricature in Vintage Postcards explores the creation and perpetuation of German American ethnic stereotypes through cartoon images found on popular postcards in the 20th century.  More than fifty cards illustrating a public view of a major ethnic group are included in the exhibit. UC Libraries Put 16th-Century Spanish Antiphoner Online

Spanish AntiphonerThe University of Cincinnati Libraries have made available via the Digital Projects Web site the Spanish Antiphoner, a 16th-century Gregorian chant choir book handwritten on vellum pages approximately 16 by 24 inches in diameter with neumatic notation and illuminated capitals.  Pages 65 through 72 of the choir book are missing, but 242 pages remain intact. 

Available online at http://digitalprojects.libraries.uc.edu/spanishantiphoner/index.asp, the Spanish Antiphoner can be viewed in its entirety as both PDF (download Adobe Acrobat Reader) files or by using Book Reader software. When viewing the Spanish Antiphoner through the Digital Projects database option, viewers can view thumbnails and large versions of the images, and then can rotate, zoom in and out, magnify particular areas, download, and print the images.

UC Libraries Pay Tribute to UC Authors, Editors & Composers

Authors, Editors & Composers DisplayIt is a celebration of the talent of UC faculty beyond the lecture halls and research labs. Publications of faculty spanning articles, books, edited journals, musical scores, artwork, poetry, DVDs, videos and the Web were on display at the annual Authors, Editors and Composers Reception and Program.

The event, open to invited members of the UC community, was held 3:30-5 p.m., Thursday, April 22, in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center.

Spring 2010 Records Quarterly Now Available

Records Quarterly, Spring 2010The Spring 2010 edition of Records Quarterly, the newsletter of University of Cincinnati Records Management, is now available on the records management website at http://www.libraries.uc.edu/libraries/arb/records_management/recordsquarterly.html. This issue includes articles about how you can improve your workflow processes and things you need to consider when creating records in a collaborative environment, such as committee work.  Additionally, the final installment of our series on the history of records at UC takes us from the beginning of automated records processes in 1949 to the present.

Barbara Ramusack Papers in the University Archives

Professor Emerita of History Barbara Ramusack has donated her professional papers covering the years 1958-2009 to the University Archives. Ramusack began teaching at UC in 1967 and served as professor, graduate studies director, head of the Department of History, and Charles Phelps Taft Professor of History, teaching in the areas of Women’s Studies and Asian Studies, with a research focus on India. Additionally, she served on a multitude of departmental, university, and professional committees. She retired on September 1, 2009 after 42 years of service to the University. Continue reading

Scenes from Edible Books

April 1 marked the 9th annual UC Libraries celebration of the International Edible Books Festival. Over 20 participants created edible creations such as: Animal Farm, Where is the Green Sheep?, In Cold Blood, If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, Caps for Sales, and Toxic Torts amoung other literary greats.
