Student Art in the Library

For the 2018-19 semesters, the Clermont College Library is pleased to exhibit the art of Caitlyn Richey and Trent McFarland.

Caitlyn shared her thoughts about her artistic process, “ ‘The power of imagination makes us infinite.’ At the beginning, developing the basic materials and ideas for the work is deeply reflective and informative. Later, by bringing materials together I begin to form a-distilling and shaping movement, creating a context, working toward something that feels cohesive and complete and creating a story that tells itself, that is what is powerful to me—and it is the spark that inspires my infinite imagination.”

Trent McFarland’s professor, Kelly Frigard, spoke about him, “Trent is a student artist interested in sea and marine life.  In Drawing II, he worked on this series of oil pastels exploring texture, color, and form.” We hope you enjoy his drawings in this series.

Student Art by Scott Hempleman

Spring semester the Clermont College Library is pleased to exhibit the art of Scott Hempleman.  Scott’s colorful paintings stem from years of drawing fun, imaginative cartoons. Encouraged by his grandfather as well as art teachers at Clermont College, Scott’s vibrant works display a study in color relationship and contrast.

This spring, Professor Kim Taylor worked with library staff to bring art into the library from nine Clermont College students and one part-time English faculty.  Relocating our information desk in December also provided the opportunity to relocate student art — and double our display area!  You’ll love the results.

Student Art Spotlight: Guy Zimmerman

It may be the fall term, but the bright colors of spring and summer will stick around in the Clermont College Library thanks to student artist Guy Zimmerman.  Created from his own original photographs, these digitally-enhanced depictions of flowers and rugged terrain are dazzling and electric. Mr. Zimmerman is also interested in geology and worked as a Senior Data Systems Specialist at GE prior to his retirement.

Mythological Winged Creatures of the Sky by Mary Ann Kronoveter

Clermont College Library is pleased to bring you work from three student artists this semester, all from Professor Kelly Frigard’s Drawing II class.

Susan L. Kleine’s works examine the natural spaces near Kibbutz Ein Gedi, Israel.  These lush landscapes were based on Kleine’s travel photography using the watercolors.  Mary Ann Kronoveter’s bold pieces, entitled, “Mythological Winged Creatures of the Sky,” depict Cygnus and Phoenix.  Using watercolor, paint, and pencil Cassie Feldhaus created two large-scale works devoted to exotic birds, the lilac-breasted roller and the blue-throated passerine bird.

Stop by and view these lovely pieces anytime the library is open.  We love collaborating with the Fine Arts program to bring you Clermont College student art each term.

Enchantment with a Touch of Mystery

Spotlight on student art work at the Clermont College Library.

Madison Keith’s portraits of women reflect the mood of the seasons. Her use of color and unexpected natural elements suffuse the paintings with enchantment and a touch of mystery. She talks about her medium of watercolor paints, pencils, and paper in her artist statement. “I also wanted to invoke a feeling of calm and harmony, and I feel like this is a bit of a reflection on the materials I used; watercolor is tricky, and you have to be calm and find harmony with your supplies when painting.”
